I remember what you remember. I also remember telling my kids the story about the assassination of Robert Kennedy and about Roosevelt “Rosy” Grier, the guy who tackled Sirhan Sirhan and held him until law enforcement arrived to arrest him. I was surprised they had never heard that story. I was happy that I had lived to tell them the story.
A lot of stuff doesn’t make it into the history books. Even stuff that makes it in doesn’t get taught by the teachers. Whether or not that’s intentional, the teachers have a conscience. They know if they left it out on purpose. No matter. We can all be history teachers. Never underestimate the value of a history teacher. We need to know where we’ve been to know where we’re at and to know how to plan our path to go forward.
