I subscribe to Viki which has a variety of Asian entertainment: Japanese, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, etc. So it's not just K-dramas in Korea but all of the Asian entertainment world seems to be jumping on the BL bandwagon. I have no interest in BL dramas. They never get added to my watch list. I'm glad the platforms created a separate category, so that when I'm browsing for something to watch I can just skip over the BL dramas.

If producers and directors of K-dramas want to add diversity and be more like the real world, why don't they include more people of color? It's the 21st century. Surely South Korea knows by now that dark-skinned people exist. I'm NOT just dumping on K-dramas. The same goes for J-dramas, C-dramas, etc.

Personally, I think it's because writing a script like that is too difficult and complicated to broach in the Asian world of entertainment because of zenophobia (or xenophobia)? I said "I think". .That means I'm willing to admit I could be wrong.

Perhaps they should test the concept first by publishing a webtoon to see how their global audience reacts. They might discover "buried treasure". They could be sitting on a money pot. After all, the bottom line in the entertainment industry is measured when somebody says "Show me the money!".

EDITOR'S NOTE: Thanks for your contribution to "Nothing But Love for Korean Dramas".
