I think we all know that face-to-face or personal contact is way better than contact via technology. However, there are people I have made friends with because of technology who I am likely to never ever see face-to-face. That's because they live in another part of the world. I probably will never travel to their home and they probably will never travel to mine. The chances of us ever meeting is slim and none! Nevertheless, I enjoy the relationship that I have with them.
I am from the generation when people use to have pen pals. People would actually write letters to each other and they have never met each other. I view the technology we use the same way. It's like having a pen pal but I don't have to use a stamp and mail correspondence to them. We chat via eMail, forums, social communities, etc.
For me, because I no longer work outside the home, technology has been a blessing for me. It proivded me with the social outlet that is important to me. Of course, the people that I need to talk to in person, I do talk to. The plus is that I can chat with them either way. In person or via the computer. I have no problem either way.
