I watched an episode of that old TV show "Dragnet" with Joe Friday. Two children went missing. One of the kids came back home. But he had to take the police to where he had left his friend. It seems the parent gave the kid a gun for Christmas. Like most kids, he couldn't wait for Christmas day so he sneaked and opened his present ahead of time. He was bragging to his friend and the gun discharged. He accidentally killed his friend. So the case was solved and the last statement Joe Friday made, expressing his anger and disgust was: "Nobody should give their kid a gun for Christmas."

Not only for Christmas but nobody should give a kid a gun OR allow them easy access to a gun. Dragnet aired in 1951, and they were real cases. Here we are in 2023 and the real cases are even worse.
