Medium is definitely not the only blog but it is a very good one. Not so much for monetization of my content but the fact that it accepts republished content. YAHOO Voices is what I used to use, however they shut that site down.
My experience with Publish0x and Hive is very different from yours. Perhaps I should have tried harder or maybe it was just not for me. Hopefully, your experience is the “norm” and my experience is the “exception”
I have an account with Publish0x, but have not had a very good experience there. It seems to only cater to people who write about crypto-related topics, which I am not good at. Also, the content has to be reviewd and approved. One can not sure whether it will be approved. For me, if I can not publish instantly, that is time wasted.
Instead, I chose Read.Cash as an alternative to the Publish0x platform. In the beginning, my experience there was worthwhile. But after a few months, as far as earning from my content, it was not wirth my efforts. Once again, it seems the people who write about crypto-relted topics are the ones who ern. However, my content does not have to be reviewed and it publishes immediatley. The social sharing feature makes it eaasy to circulate. In addition, my RC articles are indexed and can be found by the search engine. This helps me "build my brand" as a freelance blogger/writer. Finally, this paltform will accept republished content as long as you can prove that it is your own original content. I did better erning Bitcoin Cash by publishing via Noise.Cash, a partner site. But now that platofrm is being replaced by Noise.App. I am OK with this change s I am still erning Bitcoin Cash for sharing content. The good thing is that I can write short posts or detailed blog posts and either way I can earn crypto if the readers enjoy my content and choose to tip me.
As for Hive? Because of my experience with Publish0x and Read.Cash, I am not keen on publishing content at Hive. That's what happens when you get "psychologically conditioned" to expect disappointment.
As I have already stated, I mainly use Medium because they accept republished content and because it is respected by the search engines so my content can usually be found via organic searches. The other blogging platforms I use are Blogspot, Tumblr, and WordPress.
My Blogspot blogs are approved for Goodgle Ad Sense, InfoLinks, and VigLink (now Sovrn//Commerce), so they generate a modest income stream.
Tumblr has a tipping feature, similar to Medium. My blogs were approved for Ad Sense, however, I am unable to onstall any of the codes to make the ads appear. Tumblr management does not encourage the use of affiliate marketing for their free blogs.
My WordPress blog is not monetized but I use it because I can link it to my socila media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, etc.) and conveniently circulate my blogs posts after hitting the publish button. Also, I like its reblogging feature.
Oops! Forgot to mention two more things.
(1) I also really like the ability to created my own Medium publications. To me, this Medium's best feature. Currently I have 3 publications: one for general discussion topics, one for foodies and food lovers, and one to share y love for historicl period Korean dramas. Also, I am a contributor for other publications managed by fellow Medium writers. This gives my writing work more exposure to reach a bigger audience.
(2) Medium allows you to have multiple profiles. In adition to my main profile published using my real name, I have two more profiles which use pen names.
