Really? Because Kamala Harris says she's black. I heard her say it! I know she's "mixed". But she says she's black.
I heard that Michael Jackson's daughter Paris, also says she's black.
People call Obama black, even though he's mixed. When he wanted to get started with his political career, he went to the black folks in Chicago. WHY?
What's my point?
The POINT is: Doesn't that say something about America when people feel the need to and/or others decide to SPECIFICALLY IDENTIFY a person with a group?
Nikki Haley is not "mixed" so she did not have to clarify being South Asian to anybody.
**Do you get where I'm coming from?
Sounds foolish huh? I mean my mother told me I have Cherokee ancestry through my grandmother. But nobody has ever called me Native American. From birth to my present life, I have been colored, Negro, Black, and now African-American.
I never met my grandmother. She died before I was born. But I feel as if she got erased from my life and there was nothing I could do about it.
Why do Kamala Harris and Michael Jackson's daughter Paris feel the need to say they are black? Do their mothers not matter?
Why is Obama called black? Does his mother not matter?
ALL LIVES MATTER!!
(It seems appropriate to say this at this juncture.)
It's good to be proud of your heritage. But when you accomplish great things in this life, why give credit to your heritage?
I mean ... Could you not have accomplished the same things if you had the talent and the opportunity but your ancestors came from somewhere else?
I'm rambling. But that's because when we merge or link together race, culture, politics, religion, etc. ... discussions tend to get discombobulated.
We the People have set up a "structure" of "squares" in our society. Then we try to make "circles" FIT!!
A very thought-provoking article. Great read!
