The guy who played Eddie Haskell was a good actor. My big sister once told me you can tell if a person is a really good actor when they play the character so well that you really dislike the character. Eddie Haskell was such a sleaze-bag. I couldn't stand him! What was really creepy was how polite he was in the presence of the adults. He had two faces and easily vacillated between two different personalities. The polite kid whose good manners would be appreciated by the parents. AND THE CREEP!! His real self.
But the writer who created his character no doubt did that intentionally. That's the way family shows were back in the day. They made the lie between good and bad very clear. Eddie Haskell was a sharp contrast to Wally, the Beaver's big brother. Eddy showed how Wally was the "model son".
