Today is Nov 11, 2021, Veterans Day. For this reason I specifically searched for articles about those who served. I was very pleased to have stumbled upon your article. I once watched a documentary about D-Day and they interviewed soldiers who had survived. I did not see one black face in that documentary. So you have shined a light on American history that I was never taught.
It's an honorable thing to have a tomb to an Unknown Soldier that we guard day and night. But in my mind, it's very dishonorable to disregard and almost erase from the history the names of the soldiers that we do KNOW. The most compelling FACT in history is that you don't really hear any of these heroes COMPLAIN about not being recognized for their loyal service. It's clear they considered defense of their homeland, simply, their patriotic duty; and no laurels were necessary.
