Working from home “doesn't work”? Uuummm … ?? Maybe that was the excuse Elon Musk used to compel his employees to come back to work at the office. But if the pandemic has taught US anything about ourselves:

* it has taught US that not only can we work from home and be productive, if our company allows it;

BUT

* if the pandemic caused us to lose our job, we can also get creative and come up with ways to work from home and make a living.

To paraphrase a quote from an old Sophia Loren movie: “Americans are a hearty race.” Meaning … you can't keep US down! We will find a way to survive!

So if that was the excuse Musk used, I have to say that it was kind of lame.

CONTRAST AND COMPARE:

I seem to recall that when an executive from another corporation told her employees they could no longer work at home, she used the excuse that she was “new” to the company leadership and she simply wanted to get to know her employees. She said she would likely consider allowing them to work from home once she knew who they were. I didn't follow up so I don't know what happened in that work situation. In other words, I don't know if the employees who came in to the office were ever allowed to go back to working from home.

Still! I thought her reason given for no remote work was “well crafted”. I mean … how could the employees argue with the fact that their boss wanted to meet them in person and get to know them?

All I'm saying is that managers and executives should have good people skills and figure out a way to make employees gladly work for them and for the good of the company. I mean ... the CEOs should consider that they do have a company to run. Do they want to run the business with disgruntled employees or loyal employees?

Just sayin'.
